What a Girl Wants

I have been amazed by the sheer volume of commercials touting the perfect gift for Mother's Day. It seems like there are more this year than in the past, most for tacky, expensive jewelry.

Guys, let me tell ya...jewelry ain't what mama wants.

Now, don't get me wrong. A little trinket now and then is nice. But the moms I know would much prefer a little time to themselves. A long, lavender-scented bubble bath with no interruptions. A morning to sleep in while someone else feeds, entertains, and dresses the kids. An afternoon to sit and read a book in a single sitting. The ability to just go for a drive alone.

Of course, a nice dinner with the family, a foot massage or pedicure, a neck and shoulder rub...these would round out the deal rather nicely.

And they're basically free.

No need to get extravagant or spend a lot of money. Just a little love and appreciation.

That's all a mama really needs.

Nice post. As my beloved's birthday falls on Mother's Day this year, I'm racking my brain...

I 100% agree. Most moms don't need jewelry to either have it get lost of broken by little fingers. My little one just lost a tiffany bracelet I got for my 30th. :(.

A nice bath and quiet time would be the best. But since I know that is not going to happen I am hoping for a beach cruiser this year. =)

So true! I want all that stuff though...lol! I think I deserve it though, since my hubs has been away for work for the past 4 months and won't be back for another 2 months. I am hoping to really cash in this year, hehee =)

Jeremy,

Okay...this actually does cost, but not too terribly much. Why not give her the 1/2 day at spa sydell while you keep the baby.

Or, better yet...get your mom or the in-laws to keep Nathan all day and night while you pamper your princess. Make her breakfast in bed. Let her sleep and read all morning. Then you take her to her favorite lunch spot and then give her a nice full body massage yourself followed by a long soak in the tub. Then take her out to a nice casual dinner, just the two of you. Then, movie or whatever Teresa's idea of the perfect date is. If you want a permanent reminder of the day/event, a locket with pictures of you and Nathan inside would be a sweet trinket. Or, I saw the coolest necklace...just pewter charms engraved with the names of the two kids on a simple chain. no idea where they came from, though.

The next morning, you can go get Nathan and enjoy spending time together as a family.
